Why Am I Here In The First Place
Getting up each morning, eating breakfast, going to work and looking forward to the weekend when we can spend time with our families.
Every once in a while we are thrown a curve ball when sickness grabs us and we have to work in a doctors appointment.
Nothing too earth scattering, just something that takes medicine to help cure the ailment quicker.
Just the same, endless routine; sometimes it seems that the days and weeks are passing by quickly, while at other times they crawl.
Regardless of how your life is progressing, at this very moment you must consider the question 'why am I here' in the first place.
I have always been self employed as an upholster.
Sometimes I don't know from one week to the next what job I will have to do.
The one thing I can count on is that I will have something.
Sometimes I look at all the bills I must pay in the month and wonder just how I am going to do this.
This is another reason why I stop and question why am I here, is it just to pay bills? I have three happily married children and they have blessed me with seven wonderful grandchildren.
They are all under the age of five and they bring a great deal of joy into my life whenever I am around them.
Still I question, is my family the reason I am here in the first place? Why am I here and what is my purpose? These questions often enter my mind as I reflect on my own life.
It seems this is what most people want to know especially when they have just been through a life altering experience.
A dramatic human complication that made them question the very existence of life.
Why are we here?Humans throughout history have believed it possible to live in this world under peace and harmony, yet if truth be known, all have failed to achieve this goal.
No matter how much we strive to live in peace, there is always war.
No matter how much we try to protect ourselves from evil, we are always trapped by forces who manipulate us to believe they are on our side, but they are false.
This is the reason I say that our world is more than what it seems.
No matter how ordinary our world may be in one moment, in the next it is destined to change.
A new president takes over as leader and new policies begin to take form.
A new congress with new agendas and a new way of handling world threats affects every person's life.
Taxes are always on the rise and the working man is always paying the bills.
Everything that happens in the world governments affects the evolution of our world, shouting out the differences in cultures.
Differences that are reflected in the core belief systems ofnations.
Differences that show the battle between communism and democracy.
Maybe this is the reason why I am here, I must see what is good and what is bad in all aspects of life.
1 Corinthians 15: 31&32, "My brothers, I face death every day!The pride I have in you, in our life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord, makes me declare this.
If I have, as it were, fought 'wild beasts' here in Ephesus simply from human motives, what have I gained? But if the dead are not raised to life, then, as the saying goes, 'Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die.
'" As I contemplatedthe reason for my existence, I had to rely upon my faith to find the deeper meaning behind life.
A reflection that led me down a path illustrated within the challenges that Paul faced as a disciple of Christ.
Paul lived during a time when Christianity was first being taught to the world.
Nero was emperor ofthe Roman and he hated all Christians.
He forced many Christians into the arenas to fight animals.
From these scriptures we see that even Paul endured a fight against wild beasts.
It seems that no matter how mundane life can be to some, others fight because they know that there is a greater purpose in life that can only be explained by how they suffer for their faith.
As I pondered all of these questions I looked towards my faith and I acknowledge that without the leading of Jesus Christ in my life, I would never even be able to understand why I am here in the first place.
For God defines me and gives me hope.
He takes my hand and leads me down paths of discovery.
Trials I would have never taken if He hadn't pulled my attention from everyday happenings in order to teach me something new.
We can only learn why we are here in the first place when we are presented with opposites.
Life and death, war and peace, justice and cruelty, poverty and riches.
The opposites show us the extreme differences found in our world.
This is when we understand that we are in the midst of a war between good and evil.
Paul defines our need for faith when he tells us about the ultimate battle we face as Christians.
A battle between unseen spiritual beings who fight to control the lives of people.
He also gives testimony to the fact that no matter what battles we face in life, Christ will ultimately win!We also will win and be rewarded for every situation in life that we personally had to fight.
1 Corinthians 15: 24-26, "Then the end will come; Christ will overcome all spiritual rulers, authorities, and powers, and will hand over the Kingdom to God the father.
For Christ must rule until God defeats all enemies and puts them under his feet.
The last enemy to be defeated will be death.
" Why am I here in the first place?I am here to fight on the side of Jesus Christ.
I am here to be an example to the world of how I can live in the world without being pulled in and corrupted by evil people.
I show that my human weaknesses can only be overcome when I allow the Holy Spirit to guide me in life.
I Corinthians 15: 54-58, "So when this takes place, and the mortal has been changed into the immortal, then the scripture will come true: 'Death is destroyed; victory is complete!Where, Death, is your victory?Where, Death, is your power to hurt?' Death gets its power to hurt from sin, and sin gets its power from the Law.
But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! So then, my dear brothers, stand firm and steady.
Keep busy always in your work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord's service is ever useless.
" When I think about my life and the reason for why I am here, I can only answer the question when I look at how I believe.
Being a Christian is everything that makes my life important.
Knowing that I fight for God gives me strength as I face the hassles of life.
My faith in Jesus as my Savior makes me a witness to my family, friends and grandchildren of how believing in God is the reason why I am here.
Jesus' helps me to fight against the evils in the world.
He shows me the difference between good and bad.
He guides me along the paths of righteousness so I might win the victory over Satan and the evil people who follow him.
So I state emphatically that if you don't know why you are here, then you must turn your focus away from the things of the world and seek Christ.
Read your Bible and pray asking Jesus into your life.
When you place your faith in Christ the dread of death will lift from your life and you will understand that nothing you do in the Lord's service is ever useless.
