Afraid of the Dentist - What Can I Do?

OK, so have definitely decided that you are afraid of the dentist so the next logical question is "What can I do?". When we look at people with different fears or phobias we really need to accomplish two things. The first (and perhaps the most important) is that you have to accept that all of this fear is really taking place in your mind. Your subconscious has been programed to the point that any time you are getting close to having a dental appoint it simply kicks your emotions into high gear to persuade (OK..demand) that you change course or else! This is why you start to have those fears of panic, shortness of breath, quickness of breath, high anxiety etc. Your brain WANTS your attention and it is going through extraordinary measures to get your attention.

Once you have accepted that there really is no medical reason for you to be afraid of the dentist you [] need to fully commit that the problem is taking place from within. As hard as it is to believe, you have become your own worst enemy. You have allowed your subconscious mind to control your emotions and create a sense of fear where none should exist.

So what can you do?

1) You can continue to be afraid of the dentist and skip all of your dental care appointments. Basically make sure that you are never place in a high panic situation.

2) You can continue to go to the dentist and deal with all of the fear and anxiety that surrounds those visits. Often times for several days both before and after your appoint. Then you will also have to deal with those feeling again when you go back in a few weeks to complete the dental work.

3) You can re-program you subconscious to react differently with respect to your dental care.

The choice appears obvious. Items 1 and 2 do not make your quality of life as pleasant as you deserve. The best solution is to get a self-guided hypnosis program/download to hep re-program your subconscious mind to fully understand that there is no reason to be afraid of the dentist and therefore no reason to take control of your emotions. Once you change the programed response, you will no longer be afraid of the dentist.
